July and August at the Hive

July and August have been jam-packed with exciting activities and some amazing achievements by Exmouth young people!  Starting in July we saw the welcoming of a group of new year sixes into our junior session so that they could meet other young people who would also be going into Exmouth Community College. This was a great opportunity to involve new members in both our arts awards week, summer trips, and music events.

The summer term was a busy one for Block Club (our session for young people with additional needs). Through this we were able to take the group to Torquay to watch Fame the Musical, which they loved. This inspired an interest in musicals and creativity culminating in the writing and production of a play by George, one of our Block Club members.

We launched into the Summer holidays on a cardboard boat as we joined in with Bideford Rotary Club Cardboard Boat Regatta and Water Festival! Several of our young volunteers worked together to construct and decorate an amazing bee-themed boat.  It was such fun to join in with our Bideford youth hub for this project despite sinking half way through the race!

Arts Award Week came next,  which allowed young people to develop creative skills in different disciplines such as music and photography.  This was a great opportunity for some of our younger members to learn some new skills and make some new friends along the way, contributing to a future legacy of creative individuals within the community.

During our summer programme, we delivered multiple trips, with record breaking numbers of young people taking part . We were blown away by how unbelievably welcoming and inclusive our young people were towards each other and how much fun they had.

And finally our Music Monday group developed their skills throughout the summer, culminating in our Hive Live event on August 14th in Manor Gardens. The day saw performances from a fantastic range of young people from our Space hubs across Devon. This event was held together by volunteers and young people who attend our sessions all year round and acted as a celebration for another fantastic year!
