UASC visit Haven Banks

We’re now a couple of months in and the project is building nicely. We have over a quarter of Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children living in Devon signed up to the project and we currently have 17 volunteers offering their time to support them! We are even looking to put another training date in the new year, enabling more volunteers to get onboard.

We have just had an event at Haven Banks last Saturday, with both Volunteers and Young people getting involved in climbing and a variety of activities. As well as this, we also had a steering group meeting (to help develop the project further). The steering group meetings involve foster carers and the young people of the project getting together to help shape the programme & develop a project best suited for unaccompanied young people.

The group were keen on having a regular youth club session specifically for UASC & young people. This would give them their own safe space to gather,  cook, access pc’s, take part in activities and gain support from volunteers and youth-work professionals in a youth specific setting. We are planning to have our first session on Monday 17th December at the 100 club, in Exeter.

More details of the sessions will come soon.
